Thailand is one of the most prominent Halal product exporters of the world, with market shares of 600 billion USD for 1800 million Muslim populations. The competition is getting more complicated from increasing markets and advance technological development in Halal sciences.
Among the advancements, the logistics and Halal demand chain traceability system are the key attraction that must be noted. Therefore in 2010, The Halal Science Center Chulalongkorn University have developed the S.I.L.K (Shariah-compliant ICT Logistics Kontrol), an information technology to effectively controls the logistics system according to Islamic regulations.
One of the developments was to track Halal product’s containers using the 2D barcode, with this system the entrepreneur could save the cost of using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) since the barcode could be easily scan by phone. The scanned data will be connected to the SILK Cloud Office at The Halal Science Center thus giving information and condition of the products in the container.
The Halal Science Center did a research of “Two-Dimensional Barcode Application Incorporated with Najis Cleaning Procedure for Preparation of Promising HAL-Q Halal Logistics and Traceability System” presented at The World Halal Research Summit 2012 at Malaysia. The center received The Award of Best Innovation from Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister Of International Trade And Industry (MITI) on the 4th of April 2012. Dato’ Mukhriz bin Tun Dr. Mahathir, Malaysian Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry and son of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, ex-prime minister of Malaysia gave compliments to the innovation as it could create trust in Thai Halal products among Muslims worldwide.
The World Halal Research Summit 2012 (WHR 2012) was organized for the 5th time as one of Malaydsia’s “Innovation Catalyst as Business Transformation” to prepare Malaysia as one of the world’s leaders in Halal industry. It was organized by The Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on the 4-5th of April 2012.
